Recently the Houston Apartment Association (HAA) and its members won six awards at the 2015 National Apartment Association’s (NAA) Excellence Awards. The annual NAA Excellence Awards—formerly known as the PARAGON Awards—recognize excellence and leadership in the apartment industry nationally. NAA annually awards Excellence Awards in twenty-three categories to acknowledge builders, industry professionals and affiliated apartment associations that make unique and significant industry contributions. The 2015 NAA Excellence Awards were presented during the NAA Education Conference & Exposition in San Francisco.
HAA received the Membership Development Award in recognition of its strategic recruitment efforts in 2015, which led to a ten percent increase in the number of member companies compared to 2014. HAA also registered its best year in membership recruitment and retention in HAA’s 55 year history.
The Circle at Herman Park received the Best Community Award in the 5-20 years and over 150 units category for its unique amenities and participation in charitable events, such as the St. Jude’s End Childhood Cancer Fundraiser. NAA also awarded Spring Brook Lofts a Best Community Award in the over 20 years and under 150 units category in recognition of Star Pacific team’s transformative rebranding and remodeling since 2014.
Philip Basarabescu of Bellestone Villas Apartments won the Independent Rental Owner of the Year Award in the 100 units or less category. In 2015 he acquired Bellestone Villas Apartments and formed Atlas Equity Management and completely transformed the property, producing immediate capital improvements. The NAA awarded two designate awards to HAA members as well—the Professional Designate of the Year award went to Chad Christian and the Apartment Maintenance Technician of the Year award went to Thomas Baird, both of Winthrop Management.
