The editors recognized Smith's outstanding work on securities matters, and also her unique pro bono work "empowering women at home and abroad, especially in areas where their day-to-day lives can be fraught existences" – including victims of human trafficking in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and women lawyers in Nepal.

Smith's practice includes serving as outside corporate counsel to public and private companies, advising them on significant corporate transactions, including cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and private equity and venture capital financings.

Smith coordinates teams of multidisciplinary lawyers and accountants to assist clients with mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, including cross-border transactions and complex global post-acquisition integration and restructurings. She is a hiring partner for the Austin office and a member of the firm's National Leadership Group of the US Emerging Growth and Venture Capital practice.
