SAN ANTONIO, April 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The South Central Texas Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Payment Data Systems, Inc. – NASDAQ:PYDS, has announced that Mr. Louis Hoch, CEO of Payment Data Systems, has been named the Corporate Walk Chair of the 2019 San Antonio Light The Night®, LLS annual fundraiser. The event is held each fall to find cures and provide access to treatments for patients afflicted with blood cancers. As the Corporate Walk Chair, Mr. Hoch will lead the effort in expanding corporate support and donations for Light The Night to support LLS’s ultimate goal of creating a world without blood cancers.

Light The Night is a fundraising campaign that brings together teams comprised of friends, family and co-workers to benefit LLS and their funding of research into cures for blood cancer. Additionally, millions of consumers also help by donating at retail outlets. The culmination is an inspiring and memorable evening walk that takes place each fall. Participants in 140 communities across North America join together carrying colored illuminated lanterns and take steps to end cancer. The white lanterns represent survivors, red lanterns identify supporters and gold are in memory of loved ones lost.

“I am honored to serve as the Corporate Walk Chair and encourage local businesses and corporations to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by participating in Light The Night,” said Louis Hoch, LLS’s South Central Texas Chapter Light The Night Chair. “Together, we are taking steps to eradicate this horrible disease that has impacted many lives near and dear to us as a corporate family. I encourage both businesses and individuals to join me in supporting LLS as they raise money that will be used to improve the lives of cancer patients.” https://pages.lightthenight.org/sctx/SAntonio19/PDS

This year, the walk will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Hemisfair Park.

“When a loved one hears the words “you have cancer,” it is one of the darkest moments in their life,” said Clarissa Flores, LLS Executive Director. “At Light The Night, it is our aim to bring light to the darkness of cancer through research and cures, and reinforce the urgent need to raise more funds to help cancer patients fight their battles.”

Through its efforts, LLS has invested more than $1.2 billion in cutting-edge research to advance therapies. Thanks to research, survival rates for patients with many blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the early 1960s. Yet, despite these advances, about one third of patients with blood cancer still do not survive even five years after their diagnosis.
