AT&T will be closing a facility in Goldsboro and laying off 95 workers starting January 2017, according to a notice filed to the state Commerce Department.
The 95 layoffs at AT&T’s DSL Tier 1 Legacy Care facility will begin on Jan. 3, 2017, and be completed by Jan. 9.
All affected employees have been notified. Bumping rights do not exist, but each employee has received an offer of employment in other locations.
The closing will include the layoffs of 78 customer assistants, seven internet assistants, one WFM manager, eight technical customer SVC managers, and one attendance analyst.
Many of the employees are represented by the Communications Workers of America.
This filing comes after the news that AT&T will purchase Time Warner for $85.4 billion, the companies announcedearlier this week.
This notice was filed pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which must be filed 60 days in advance of a plant closing that affects more than 50 employees in a 30-day period or a mass layoff of at least 500 employees or between 50 to 499 employees if they make up at least one-third of the employer’s workforce.
