Texas Veteran Appointed as National Chaplain of American Legion

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A U.S. Navy Korean War veteran from Texas was appointed national chaplain of the 2.2. million member American Legion during the organization’s national convention in Cincinnati today.

Harvey H. Klee is the founder of the Texas Chaplains Association, author of A Chaplain's Story, 2nd Ed., a Texas Boys State Manual and Guide and regularly conducts workshops for fellow chaplains. He has been appointed Texas department chaplain nine times, more than any chaplain in the history of the department and serves concurrently in that position. In that capacity, Klee writes a monthly column, The Chaplain's Corner, in the Texas Legion magazine. He has served as division chaplain 11 times, district chaplain for 18 years, and as Texas Boys State chaplain.

Klee is an associate chancellor with the Rio Texas United Methodist Church (UMC), a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hill Country UMC District, a certified lay speaker and chairman of the Administrative Council of the Highland Lakes UMC.

He served aboard the aircraft carrier, Philippine Sea-CV47. Following his enlistment, he returned to college receiving a B.A. In Psychology, a Graduate Certificate in Industrial Relations, and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence. He served as a domestic missionary working among drug addicts and was active in designing training programs for inmates at the California Institute for Men in Chino, Calif., and providing job placement opportunities in private industry.

Klee is also an attorney licensed to practice in Texas and California, the Fifth and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a certified Instructor of taijiquan (a Chinese martial art), qi gong ( a Chinese health system) and meditation techniques. He also is an accomplished musician having played with the Washington D.C. Orchestra, the Glendale Symphony Orchestra in California, and many musical ensembles throughout his earlier career.
