The Brotherhood of Emanu El is hosted their annual garage sale to benefit their congregation as well as the community on August 14 and 21 from 9 am to 2 pm. Bruce Lessey, independent broker with the Coldwell Banker United, REALTORS® Greenway Plaza office, is a member of the Brotherhood and plays an active role in the execution of the event.
Starting in 1982, this annual event raises money for Congregation Emanu El and the community. It’s an opportunity for people to clean out their homes of items they no longer need, and all clothing donated to the garage sale is given to organizations that help others in their community.
This event exists to serve three main purposes:
1. Help the Congregation
2. Help the Community
3. Raise Money
“I have been honored to serve in many capacities to help this event be successful,” said Lessey. “To be able to help the community and my congregation means the world to me.”
Lessey served as president of the Brotherhood from 2012-2014, playing an active role in the management of the event and for the past four years has done all of the marketing for the event. With his experience in real estate, Lessey is also tasked each year to find a location to host this large event.
On top of all the giving, the garage sale raises an average of $25,000-30,000 for programs of the congregation Emanu El.
