DICK’S Sporting Goods is on track to open six stores, including two that will feature a DICK’S, Field and Stream and Golf Galaxy all under one roof, this fall for its grand march into Greater Houston.
"There is excitement growing in the metro with DICK’S Sporting Goods signs going up at the construction sites," says Matt Reed, vice president of Houston-based NewQuest Properties and the retailer's tenant representative in South Texas.
The Shoppes at ParkWest at24600 Katy Freeway in Katy and Baybrook Mall at 1132 Baybrook Mall Dr. in Friendswood have won the 105,000-sf specialty stores, which will feature three banner stores under one roof.
Traditional single- and bi-level stores will open in Deerbrook Mall, 20131 Hwy. 59 N., Humble; First Colony Mall, 16535 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land; The Woodlands Mall, 1201 Lake Woodlands Dr., The Woodlands; and Willowbrook Mall, 2000 Willowbrook Dr., Houston. The stores range from 50,000 sf to 83,000 sf.
The Pittsburgh-based chain is making its way south after establishing beachheads in recent years in North and Central Texas. "It's an opportune time to come into the Houston market to fill in the gap with Sports Authority closing 11 stores in August," Reed says.
DICK’S Sporting Goods' sites typically are located in regional power centers with 750,000 sf or more and one-million-sf malls. Its target market is discerning middle-class consumers in high-density areas. Each location is a "shop-in-shops" design stocked with authentic full-line sporting goods, apparel and footwear of exclusive labels, such as Field & Stream, CALIA, Top-Flite, MAXFLI, Umbro, Reebok apparel and adidas baseball, among others and top brand names in leisure and recreation, including football, golf, cycling, hunting and camping.
DICK’S Sporting Goods, founded in 1948 in Binghamton, N.Y., is listed on the Fortune 500,
Fortune 1000 and S&P 400. The parent company operates more than 645 DICK’S Sporting
Goods stores in 47 states. It also owns and operates Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream, True Runner and Chelsea Collective specialty shops.
