Russell Rice was recently named to the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) Board of Trustees as vice president at the 86th Annual Convention and Exhibition in Albuquerque, NM.
“Welcoming Rusty as the vice president of NAHU is exciting for NAHU. He brings a wealth of experience and insights gained from his leadership in the health insurance industry. His dedication in making sure agents and brokers continue servicing their clients is a great addition to our Board,” said Janet Trautwein, NAHU CEO.
Rice started his insurance career in 1993 as a Medicare HMO sales representative for Secure Horizons, a PacifiCare Company in San Antonio, TX. He went on to implement a HMO vision plan for Eye Care Centers of America (ECCA). Later, he became the national sales manager and developed a national vision product for ECCA using the entire network of company owned stores. Currently, Rice is the regional vice president of sales for Avesis Incorporated serving as their third party trainer as well as their healthcare reform expert.
After joining the San Antonio Association of Health Underwriters (AHU) in 1998, Rice immediately became active in various chapter roles from public service chair where he helped raise over $20,000 for local charities, to soon becoming president of Texas AHU. He held numerous leadership positions within his local and state chapters, which led to becoming NAHU regional vice president for two years. His industry achievements include a Certificate of Achievement for Public Service for his selfless work in the health insurance industry as well as the Legislative Excellence Award, Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award, Landmark Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. He was recently the recipient of the Texas AHU Hollis Roberson Award, the highest award handed out by the state chapter.
“I am honored to continue my work on the NAHU Board of Trustees in the office of vice president,” Rice said. “I am committed to serving our members, so that our agents and benefits professionals can continue to provide exceptional guidance to the millions of Americans with health insurance.”
Rice received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1988. He is involved in his neighborhood having served on his housing development’s restrictions committee, the Faith Formation board of his church and CYO athletics by coaching soccer, basketball and baseball.
