Liv-Connected In Finalist Round For Texas Land Office Disaster Recovery Alternative Housing Competition

12/10/20

The Texas Land Office recently announced that LiV-Connected, a partnership of healthcare, design and architecture experts, has been selected as one of four finalists in a competition to provide state-of-the-art affordable disaster relief housing for the State of Texas.

Founded in 2018, LiV-Connected designs, prototypes, and builds smart modular housing components that are assembled to make homes and multi-family developments, bringing together disparate healthcare technologies to create residences that take care of you.

The Connected Home is a disaster relief housing solution that is made of prefabricated cartridge components that once assembled, make a home that is significantly larger, better designed and provides a more dignified living experience than the current FEMA trailer. Future iterations of the design are being explored to incorporate integrated health centered technologies including biometric monitoring and immediate physician access, as well as aging in place adaptability through movable and automated elements.

“We are thrilled to be considered a finalist in the Texas Land Office Modular Housing Competition,” said Jordan Rogove, Director of Architecture and Design of LiV-Connected and Partner and Co-founder of DXA studio in New York City. “The Texas Land Office is a recognized leader in urban planning and has built a better future for Texas since 1836. It is an honor to be recognized for the innovative thinking and research that has resulted in a meaningful transformation to disaster relief housing. We hope that this design will become a model for reimagining how this country provides rapidly deployable and dignified post-disaster communities.”

This competition, held by the State of Texas, looked for novel solutions for interim housing following disasters. The Texas General Land Office’s Community Development and Revitalization (GLO CDR) Disaster Recovery Alternative Housing Study gathered, analyzed, and evaluated data related to alternative housing options, including factors such as resiliency, safety, potential for use as permanent housing, cost, and the time required to deploy the housing solution at scale following a disaster. The Study began in early 2020.

LiV-Connected brings together a talented and dedicated cross-disciplinary partnership from multiple sectors, including healthcare, technology, fabrication, design, architecture, and academia. These team members, experts in their respective fields, have undertaken many years of individual and collective investigation into improvements to healthcare delivery, housing design and prefabricated smart construction processes.

“We founded LiV-Connected with a goal to bring health and well-being as seamless amenities to the residential experience,” said Herb Rogove, CEO of LiV-Connected. “The extension of this idea into disaster-relief housing is a natural transition given the trauma experienced by the impacted communities, and the ways in which design and health-focused thinking can provide a platform of support for those in need. With the Connected Home, we are looking for ways to not only address the immediate demand for basic housing, but also to provide community recovery in the form of an infrastructure that has the ability to provide long-term, smart living solutions.”
