The Dinerstein Companies and Harrison Street Close on Berkeley Student Housing

10/9/19

The Dinerstein Companies (TDC), alongside Harrison Street purchased the six property Berkeley Apartment Portfolio from Equity Residential. Totaling 343 units with 27,304 square feet of retail space, The Berkeleyan, Renaissance Villas, ARTech, Touriel, Fine Arts, and Gaia will allow TDC and Harrison Street to achieve an immediate critical mass in one of the most sought-after apartment markets in the country.

All six properties were built between 1998 and 2004 and are located steps from the UC Berkeley Campus in Downtown Berkeley in the city’s technology innovation hub within proximity to BART stations as well as Downtown Oakland and San Francisco.

Since 2000, Downtown Berkeley’s residential population has doubled, and UC Berkeley’s enrollment has increased by nearly 6,000 students. Berkeley continues to be in demand for all types of renters due to its renowned culinary scene, cultural amenities, walkability, and access to public transit. With walk scores averaging ninety-six and bike scores at ninety-seven, all six properties are characterized as a walker and biker paradise.

The Berkeley Portfolio will be rebranded The Sterling Berkeley Collection and will become part of the Sterling Housing, the Dinerstein Companies’ student housing division. The Leasing Center for all buildings will be located at 1910 Oxford Street.
