Craig Stanfield

King & Spalding today announced that Craig Stanfield has joined as a partner in the Houston office. Stanfield’s diverse litigation experience will extend the firm’s expertise across an array of industries and supplement its roster of trial lawyers based in Houston.

Stanfield has tried product liability, environmental, commercial and insurance recovery matters throughout the country. He has first-chair trial experience before federal and state courts, as well as arbitration panels. His cases involve a range of industries, including manufacturing, automotive, energy, aviation, financial services and computer software. Stanfield joins from Morgan Lewis, where he served as hiring partner for the firm’s Houston office, as well as on the pro bono committee.

“Craig is an exceptional lawyer with technical strength and good judgment,” said Robert E. Meadows, leader of the firm’s business litigation practice in Houston. “He is a rising star whose first-chair trial experience, appellate work and experience with clients across all major industries make him a great addition to the practice. We are delighted he is joining the firm.”

Stanfield has been recognized by Texas Lawyer (Lawyers on the Rise), Benchmark Litigation (Future Star, Under 40 Hot List, Top Litigator Under 40) and Legal 500 US. Stanfield received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University and his J.D., cum laude, from American University. Prior to entering private practice, he clerked for Judge Wanda Fowler of the Texas 14th District Court of Appeals.

“Last year was a strong year for recruiting talented laterals to the Houston office, and this year is proving to be the same with the addition of Craig Stanfield,” said Tracie Renfroe, managing partner of the Houston office. “Craig is known among clients as a ‘go-to’ litigator who holds the distinction of having achieved a defense verdict after only 35 minutes of jury deliberation. He is a dynamic and collaborative lawyer who will thrive at the firm.”

“King & Spalding’s reputation as an elite firm—in particular as a top tier trial firm along with its investment in the Houston office and the recent influx of talent there— made it an obvious fit to further build my practice,” Stanfield said. “I am excited to partner with other litigators and industry experts throughout the firm.”

With over 110 lawyers in Texas and 80 in Houston, King & Spalding’s Houston office is one of the largest among firms founded outside Texas. The office is a base for the firm’s leading energy practice, which has twice been named one of Law360’s Energy Practice Groups of the Year, has twice been named Energy Advisory Firm of the Year (Legal) by Petroleum Economist, and in 2017 received the Gold Award for Best U.S. Law Firm – Project Finance, Infrastructure & Energy from the International Legal Alliance.

In 2017, King & Spalding added 10 partners in Texas including Peter Hays, David Runnels, Darren Inoff, Jason Peters, Cindy Lin, Stuart Zisman, Roxanne Almaraz, Lana Varney, Lisa Horvath Shub and Stephen Huffaker.
