Laura Hilton Hallmon
Laura Hilton Hallmon, a Partner with Cantey Hanger LLP, achieved board certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the specialty area of Labor & Employment Law. She will be inducted at a ceremony on February 23 in Austin, TX.
Within the Texas legal community, an attorney who is Board Certified has “substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law.” It is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment.
The Board Certified designation sets an attorney apart as having the highest public commitment to excellence in their area of law. There are more than 100,000 attorneys currently licensed to practice in Texas; only 7,450 have earned the right to be publicly recognized as Board Certified specialists in one of 24 select areas of law.
Board Certification is a voluntary designation program requiring that the attorney be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend specialty area-specific continuing education courses, pass evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges in their specialty area, and pass a six-hour written examination.
Hallmon is a 1996 graduate of Baylor University and received her juris doctor degree from Baylor University School of Law in 1999. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May of 1999 and is also admitted to practice before each of the U.S. District Courts for the four Districts of Texas, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
She began her practice with the Law Offices of David Fielding in March 1999, becoming a partner in January 2005. In September 2015, Hallmon, Fielding and Frank Parker brought their labor and employment law practice to Cantey Hanger.
A career-long employment law litigator, Hallmon focuses her practice on the prosecution and defense of a variety of state and federal employment law matters, including harassment and discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour disputes and restrictive covenants prohibiting competition. She also counsels clients on litigation avoidance through effective employment practices and compliance.
